Nicolás Saldaña is a talented music producer, arranger, and performer who has built his career in popular and regional music, following the path of artists like Giovanny Ayala and Jeison Jiménez. A graduate of Universidad El Bosque’s music program, Nicolás has established himself as a versatile and creative producer. For approximately six years, I have had the pleasure of collaborating with him, mixing both the music he produces for others and his own projects.

As a client, he is detail-oriented and has a clear vision of what he wants to convey in each production, making the mixing process an interesting and rewarding challenge. His passion for music and his ability to blend traditional and modern elements give his compositions an authentic and unmistakable signature.

The Results

From Concept to Final Sound: Exploring the Mixing Process Behind ‘Esta es pa’ mí’

For the mix of «Esta es pa’ mí,» I immersed myself in Nicolás’s intention to create a personal song that showcased his own craft and talent as an independent artist. He was looking for a direct and emotional sound that reflected his experience and dedication in the music industry. Building on the experience gained from mixing Aníbal’s previous project, I decided to take the processing a step further for this track. From the start, I opted for a more aggressive approach, using heavier compression in the mix to give it more punch and character.

I worked intensely on balancing the elements, ensuring that Nicolás’s voice felt «in your face» and that the essential instruments, such as the guitars and accordion, took center stage. To achieve this, I made adjustments to the equalization and used subtle effects, like saturation, to add texture and enhance the song’s energy. I also experimented with stereo placement, ensuring each element had its own space in the mix, adding an extra dimension to the track.

Mixing «Esta es pa’ mí» was a meticulous process where I had to find the right balance between the warmth of traditional instruments and the power that Nicolás desired for his sound. This project was an excellent opportunity to explore new techniques and contribute to Nicolás’s artistic vision, resulting in a final product that captures the strength, authenticity, and passion he brings to his music.
